Losing weight is a big topic these days.

Some of us want to trim a little for the summer and look good in our bathing suits, while others need to drop a bit more weight for health reasons.

Fiber could be just the thing you haven’t addressed yet!

A recent study found that people who added more of it to their diets — without changing anything else — lost almost as much weight as people who followed the heart-healthy, low-fat eating plan recommended by the American Heart Association.

The study added to a growing body of evidence that people who eat more fiber tend to have a healthier body weight.

While high-fiber foods tend to be healthy (think: fruit, veggies, whole grains), what proved equally important was that this kind of diet was easier to stick to than the other, more structured approach.

Most high-fiber plans for weight loss still come with a reduction in calories. For example, one recommended method would include a calorie restriction of between 850-1,500 calories a day. Don’t jump in the deep in at first though, start on the lower end and work your way up (e.g. 1,000-1,200 at first).

Unlike other carbohydrates, most dietary fiber doesn’t provide any calories. This means fibre-rich foods are often lower in energy than foods containing no fiber or only small amounts, making them ideal for people who are trying to lose weight.

Fiber-Rich Organic Smoothie Recipes

Ingredients:
  • 1 organic banana
  • 2 tablespoons organic flaxseed oil
  • 2 cups organic coconut milk
  • 1 organic orange
  • 2 organic figs
  • 2 tablespoons organic almonds

Ingredients:
  • 1 organic banana
  • 1/2 organic lemon
  • 1 cup organic raspberries
  • 1 organic apple
  • 1 tablespoon organic flax seeds
Recipe #3

Ingredients:
  • 2 organic kiwis
  • 1/2 organic apple
  • 1 tablespoon organic flax seeds
  • 1 organic banana
  • 1 organic orange
  • 1 tablespoon organic hazelnuts
Instructions:

Use a blender (we recommend this) to mix all the ingredients and the fresh and healthy smoothie is prepared!
